Using Online Video in a Language Classroom
One of the simplest ways to get yourself started with CALL is to make use of other people's work. No, I'm not saying rip people off, I'm saying don't re-invent the wheel if you don't need to. With the vast amount of freely available video on the internet, you literally have a never ending supply of content for your classes.
Take a look at this video for example:
There are so many things that you can have your students do after or while watching this video. At a very basic level they can simply list the steps involved in the process. You could have them discuss which steps were good or bad, and what changes they might make. Students could use this as an introduction to 'How to…" or process writing and then be asked to outline their own 'how to…' guide. The possibilities are endless.
So, get off your butt and go to youtube and look for videos on a subject that you are teaching in your class, or that students find interesting. You'll be sure to find something. They just think about how to make use of it in your language class. It doesn't need to be rocket science. Just keep it simple to start, and once you've got a handle on using the technology - start to spread your wings a little.
That's all for now. Don't forget to add your comments below.
Cheers.
Eric
