Simple ESL Shadowing Pronunciation Practice
I recently wrote post on the value of using shadowing as a useful way to practice speaking and pronunciation. Rather than me writing about it again you can read that initial post about Shadow Talking for ESL Pronunciation.
What I'd like to do in this post is give you a really quick and easy way to give your students a simple source of audio clips to practice with.
CBC.ca (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) ran a series of audio essays called "This I Believe" They are all under 4 minutes long and are for the most part in very clear, even paced Canadian English accent. The nice thing about these audio files is that they are intended for public access, and each audio essay has an audio-script included. This way students can practice by simply listening and speaking (a true shadowing practice), or they can read along using the tape-script.
I'm sure there are many other sources of audio clips that are similar to these that would be of value to your students. However the clips at "This I Believe" are very good, and easily available.
So, if you'd like to give your ESL students access to some good quality listening material that they can use to practice listening and speaking (as in shadowing, or notetaking), this is a great place to start.
Cheers,
Eric
